Behind the Craft: Montreal Jewellery Photography for Ex Aurum
Even years after wrapping this project, my photoshoot with Montreal atelier Ex Aurum remains one of my absolute favourite creative projects.
When approached to capture a full campaign for their collection, we knew a single concept wouldn't do justice to the depth of their craftsmanship. My goal with this project was to bridge the raw, gritty artistry with the polished elegance of the finished pieces.
We structured this multi-day shoot into three distinct visual chapters:
In the Atelier (Behind the Scenes): Capturing master goldsmiths at work—torches, polishing wheels, and raw materials coming together. Bringing out the rich, moody tones of the workshop provides context and authenticity to high-end craftsmanship.
Fine Still Life: Focusing on clean, delicate light and subtle textures that elevate delicate bands, gold chains, and emerald cut gemstones. Capturing metal shine and stone clarity without harsh glare requires thoughtful light manipulation.
Editorial Model Session: Elevating the campaign through organic, editorial photography. Working with a model allowed us to showcase scale, movement, and how the pieces interact naturally with light and movement against soft clothing textures and tones.
Whether you need refined commercial photography for an upcoming product launch or editorial photography to bring your brand identity to life, crafting imagery that feels genuine and luminous is always at the heart of my work.
